Vergelegen Wines

Since 1700, Vergelegen (meaning “situated far away”), has been a historic estate in Somerset West, in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It rose to stardom in the 1990s under the owner of Château Lafite no less. More recently, the indomitable and innovative winemaker André Van Rensberg teamed up with the world’s finest consultant winemaker Michel Rolland and together took the estate from good to great. Extending over 3000 hectares, from the banks of the Lourens River to the rock faces of the Hottentots Holland Mountains, Vergelegen is one of South’s Africa’s most prominent wineries. This is reflected by the fact its wines have earned more than 200 local and international awards since 1999 including the coveted Château Pichon Longueville. This great estate achieved more 90+ ratings than any other South African winery in Tim Atkin’s prestigious 2020 guide.

You really have to taste these wines for yourself to see why it is winning so many awards, and discover the wonderful balance between Old World elegance and New World power; from their pure fruit-driven Premium range, through their complex Reserve wines, all the way up to the classy Flagship GVB.
